Council Survey on HMO

Improving how shared homes are managed – tell us your views

Safe, well managed private rented accommodation

The council would like to hear from residents and local businesses over a 10-week consultation period on proposals to extend licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), with an aim to improve management and standards of multi-occupied homes in areas of the city outlined below.
The proposed scheme would cover smaller HMOs of two or more storeys and three or more occupiers in the wards of Hanover & Elm Grove, Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, St Peters & North Laine, Hollingdean & Stanmer and Queen’s Park. These are the wards with some of the highest concentrations of multi-occupied homes in the city.
We are also asking for views on proposed changes to our Standards for Licensable Houses in Multiple Occupation.

Update

Several residents have commented how useful the contacts sheet has been.  Please distribute to neighbours.  There seems to be a lack of these in hanover so if you live in hanover please print them out.
There have been very positive moves from all of the contacts on the list this is great to see an a relief to many residents.

Update

Parking enforcement on Elm Grove has been suspended for three months we are waiting for the Council to announce this officially.

In other news the contact sheet in the post below has already been used by residents and action has been taken by the Environmental Health Noise Unit good news for all.  I am very pleased to say that the Universitys have also been very helpful as have the Council Housing and HMO Licensing people.  So if you or your neighbours are having any issues then get in touch with the relevant department.

By all means print it off and hand it to any neighbours who are having issues.

Update

At the LAT meeting last night there were several concerns over HMO`s which the Greens have not addressed.  Therefore we are posting a contacts list that residents may find useful if they are experiencing any issues with new HMO`s.  A copy of this will be sent to all residents on our EGRAG mailing list, if you are not on it click the link on the right or mail

We are back

The council is at it again they are trying to enforce parking at the bottom of Elm Grove.  Watch this space for further details

ELM GROVE RESIDENTS ACTION GROUP:
Parking Enforcement in Elm Grove – Is your Street Next???
 Act Now!!

  • Despite overwhelmingly voting OUT CPZ and getting 3,500 resident and 72 Business petitions against parking restrictions, the Council is at it again!!
  • Through parking enforcement on Elm Grove we are set to lose around 300 spaces
  • It will mean a HUGE reduction in parking places and MORE parking congestion and danger in YOUR Street
  • As per the Council’s own CPZ survey, there are too many cars in the area, and parking levels peak in the evening when residents return from work
  • If safety is an issue why has the Council ignored the problem for years? Parking on the pavement is not ideal but given the shortage of spaces, we have no choice. When cars obstruct the pavement then they should be dealt with however, along Elm Grove the pavements are wide enough to accommodate cars without obstruction, if parked sensibly
·         The Council could invest some of the £Millions profit made from Parking Charges and Fines in the City to make Elm Grove safer, without losing parking spaces
  • Our unique local businesses including Pubs, Cafes, Newsagents, Garages and shops will suffer and may even close
  • We have tried to ensure a fair and common sense approach that does not hinder community life
  •  We have consistently made our feelings known to the Council at all levels but our views have been completely ignored.

We say:

Don’t let the Council bully us into schemes that we don’t want and that will not work
The Council must listen to the resident’s views and consult properly working with the community and not against it
Light touch low cost common sense approach is possible without dividing the community
Act now your street could be next
We call on the council to defer the decision until a proper review and consultation can be undertaken

What can you do?

Let your councillors know how you feel
